CANGYM Badges Program for School-Aged Children
CANGYM is Canada’s National Skill Development Program. It was created by coaches, to be used in recreational gymnastics programs for participants of all ages. CANGYM has two objectives:
- To provide a badge-based, skill development program for Canadian gymnastic clubs.
- To provide resource material that complements the Level 1 and 2 National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Gymnastics curriculum.
How does CANGYM work?
The most important ingredients in any gymnastics program are enthusiastic, well-prepared coaches. Coaches must be familiar with all the CANGYM resource materials and, using these materials, should prepare an overall session plan, and a set of daily lesson plans.
There are 12 different colored badges in the CANGYM program. Each badge consists of approximately 30 different skills. Program skills have been selected to ensure a clear progression from one badge to the next, leading to the key skills that are contained in the GOLD badge. The key skills in this program can be considered “building blocks” for more advanced gymnastics, but can also stand alone as excellent recreational level skills.
- Children 6 and up who are new to gymnastics should register in the Burgundy/Red/Tan class in the appropriate age group.
